OUR STORY

Isaiah Projects came into being as a legal entity in April of 2006 when it was incorporated in Ontario. However, the seeds that were germinated and grew into Isaiah Projects were planted in a small town in Northern Peru in 2002 when Alan Garrett, the founder of the organization experienced the mission field for the first time. He had gone to Pinto Recordo, a village of around 2,000 people in Peru, as part of an 18 person mission team sent out to help build a church. What started out as a construction project turned into a life changing experience that taught him the value of serving others and putting  their needs ahead of his own. So moving was this experience, that he determined to spend more of his time sharing this transformational learning with others, first as the head of missions at Lakeside Church in Guelph where he was serving as the Director as Worship Arts, and then later as the Founder of Isaiah Projects.

So how did Isaiah Projects come into being? In 2006, shortly after his father passed away, Alan asked God to reveal to him how he could best share the message of hope and renewal that he had experienced in Peru. He was lead to Isaiah 58 and specifically the following passage of scripture:

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
   and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
   and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
   and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
   and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

                                                                                                                 Isaiah 58: 6-7

The principles of loosing the chains of oppression, and breaking the yoke, of feeding the hungry, and providing shelter and clothing to those in need are the core values by which Isaiah Projects operates. To differentiate ourselves from other organizations, Isaiah Project's Board of Directors from the outset adopted a policy that 100% of donations to the organization would be directed to help those in need. Any administration expenses that have been incurred have been covered by the Board of Directors or those who have specifically designated funds to help run the organization. Isaiah Projects continues to operate under this directive because we believe that ultimately our donors want to maximize the impact on those whom we support.
